MercyMe begins 'Imagine Tour" in 2004

After ending this year with performances for a Youth Conference in Pigeon Forge, TN., MercyMe will embark on ‘The Imagine Tour’ this winter of 2004, January 30 to March 8, where they will be joined by Amy Grant and Bebo Norman. The tour will hit 25 venues, with markets attracting both Christian and mainstream Pop and AC stations. The band will end the year of 2003 with performances for a Youth Conference in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Lead singer Bart Millard, well-appreciated for his vocal skills in the band’s hit single “ I Can Only Imagine,” shares his reflection to working with Grant and Norman.

“My vision for this tour is to see lives completely changed,” said Millard. “When we were talking with Amy about the tour, she smiled and told me this was why she longed to be a part of this tour as well. We’re so excited that she and Bebo will be out on the road with us – it’s going to be a great time.”

Grant has also been a supporter of MercyMe for several years.

"I am so excited to be part of this tour with Mercy Me,” says Grant. “I've gotten to know all the guys over the past couple of years and they have truly amazed me with their songwriting ability, musicianship, and overall artistry. Their commitment to Christ and passion about leading others to experience a deeper faith is genuine and inspiring. It is an honor to share the stage with them.

This year, MercyMe broke through to pop radio with the single “I Can Only Imagine,” a touching song where the singer is wondering how it would be like to meet Jesus. The song instantly became a #1 hit and won MercyMe several Dove Awards plus a gold record. Continuing to rise from being Christian music’s fastest-selling new artist of 2001, Mercy Me has greeted 2003 with a position on Billboard’s top 200 sales chart lasting from summer to fall, selling over 20,000 units a week with their 2001 release Almost There. The band also topped Billboard’s singles sales chart for seven weeks. Their 2002 release Spoken For received RIAA Gold certification, a #1 hit on AC radio for “Spoken For.” MercyMe is currently in the studio working on their April 2004 INO Records release, Undone.
