Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)

Are You Thirsty?

[-] Text [+]

Isaiah 55:1-6 NIV

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, My faithful love promised to David. See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of the peoples. Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations that do not know you will hasten to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for He has endowed you with splendor. Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near."

What a beautiful passage! What a wonderful thought! If you're thirsty, just come to His waters! If you're hungry, eat of the meat of His Word! It doesn't matter whether you have money or not, just come to Him! His gift is free! No charge. Jesus has already paid your tab!

Whether we want to admit it or not, you and I spend a great deal of our time focused on disobeying God. That's right, disobeying God! Think about your typical day. You get up, get dressed and go to work. If you do pray, it's probably with one eye shut and the other eye on your watch, making sure you get out the door so you'll get to work on time. At work, all of your effort is on doing your job, pleasing your boss so that you'll keep your job and, perhaps, so that you'll get that promotion or raise so you can make more money. Later, at home, you cook, eat, then flop down in front of the television for three or four hours - or plant yourself in front of your computer for a few hours of e-mail, chatting and surfing. Then, after the news, you crawl into bed exhausted, yearning for sleep so you can get up tomorrow and repeat the whole process.

And yet, you're not satisfied. Your day seems empty. Something's missing. What is it? You haven't fed your soul. You haven't watered the thirst in your Spirit. And, just as you will get sick and weak if you don't feed your body and give it physical food and drink, you will get sick and weak spiritually if you don't feed and water your soul.

Hungry? Thirsty? Do what Isaiah says: Come to Him (open your Bible), listen to Him (read His Word), seek Him (pray without looking at your watch), call on Him (ask Him for guidance, for knowledge, for wisdom, for whatever you need!). He has "endowed you with splendor" - let Him fill your life with the richness of His Spirit. It's the only thing in life worth having that is truly free!

Think about it.

There are many that exclaim: there is no life after death! Woe to us!

For no one has come back or escaped from death. No one has made their way back to tell us. The dead are dead, and once we die, we too shall never return.

Sadly they have believed a lie.
For Christ has returned. For Christ has returned! Do you hear? O dead men and women! Christ has broken the clutches of death, and has returned extending us Life.

Death is defeated...and for Christians, the apostle Paul exclaims...Oh death where is thy sting? For now we look forwards to life everlasting...not death!

Christ is risen, and death is defeated! And for those that would drink, that would savour His Word, He gives us His Spirit and Life everlasting. Maranatha!

What kind of Love is this? What kind of man is this?... That would die for our sakes? and chance death, for our lives. It is Christ, and He is risen. It is God in Christ who Loved us so that His Love extends beyond the grave and sets us free.

Christ is the Lord of the living, not of the dead...and it is Christ to which Abraham and Job and Jacob and all those that looked for redemption..and no other...no other has escaped the clutches of death. No other.

I thank God for this Scripture. It is truly revitalizing, filling my very being with hope, strength and life itself.

In John 4:14 as Jesus welcomes the Samaritan woman He calls on her (a gentile) and explains...whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring which will provide him with life-giving water and give him eternal water...

Jesus is God, our great Deliverer. He is at the same time our David, and our man, who has met the powers of death and defeated them at the cross. For He is risen!

Will you have life? then do not be fooled by todays false religious leaders who will compromise your life for their gain...evil shepherds who have already compromised their very lives and seek to compromise others, for they have become cold and already dead because they have forsaken Him for others who have no power to save...

But seek Christ, for He is our David, and He unequivocally states in John 14.6...I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one goes to the Father except by me.
