DENVER - Two prominent Roman Catholic archbishops say House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic Democrat, misstated church teachings about abortion in a recent television appearance, the latest sign that the U.S. Catholic hierarchy will not stay silent about politics this election year.

In an appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Pelosi said "doctors of the church" have not been able to define when life begins and that "over the history of the church, this is an issue of controversy."
Washington Archbishop Donald Wuerl, citing the teaching responsibility entrusted to bishops, issued a statement late Monday that read, in part: "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable."
Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput and his auxiliary bishop, James Conley, said in a statement posted on the archdiocesan Web site: "Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them."
Abortion "is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it," the statement continued.
Over the weekend, Chaput said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that Democratic vice presidential nominee-in-waiting Sen. Joseph Biden should refrain from receiving Communion because of his abortion stance.
A Pelosi spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I think that credit goes to FullGospel...
In Christ..<><..
On the Abortion Issue the Catholic Church has hudreds of quotes from the Church Fathers that abortion is always evil and a faithful Christian may NEVER support it or have one.
Lot's of wisdom in the quotes that TALL GUY gave.
ARCHBISHOP CHAPUT is the BEST!!!!! Go Get 'em Bishop!
I would love it if he just excommunated the lot of every Democrat who is Catholic and supports any intrinsic evils!
Wow, now that will send a message.
READ THE CATECHISM PELOSI AND BIDEN! The two of you are the most ignorant.
iwillseekthelord12,
I'm not cahtolic either. However, I have never been in a church that is not filled with sinners. Should they not teach the need for Christ and holy living? Of course they should! Just because one is not perfect does not mean one should not teach the need to strive for perfection (Christ).
iwillseekthelord12,
Hypocrisy is not just a problem of the RCC. Many churches and individual Christians need to self-analyze and repent. But that's not the point of the article.
Pelosi is spreading misinformation about the Catholic Church and its teachings. They are defending their position.
iwillseekthelord12, wake up! Where have you been for the last 6 years? The Church does have a handle on this situation now. This situation has been addressed and there are now controls implemented.
If the Catholic Church did not have any moral authority, we, Catholic or Protestant, would be in serious trouble!
I am a Protestant, and do not see the Catholic Church as a moral Authority! I think that they should get a handle on sexual molestation that run rampant among their clergy before they piously attack someone who has not surrounded themselves with that scale of Lewdness.
Hypocrisy is not the way that I think that the church should do business!
fullgospel, I appreciate you sharing that research, to be honest I never realized that this issue was being talked to that far back in history of the Church.
Here's the historical quotes. There was never any question about abortion. It's been wrong within Christianity since the very beginning.
The Didache
"The second commandment of the teaching: You shall not procure [an] abortion, nor destroy a newborn child" (Didache 2:1â
What's sad is so many unbelievers and immature in Christ will fall for it. What's sadder still, so will some more mature in Christ who think the solution to the world's problems is more government, rather than more Christ.
what about the child's right to choose ms. pelosi satanist. Have you ever asked a child if they want to be murdered in a ghastly way like suction or having a pair of scissors stuck in the back of there heads and then having there brains sucked out?
Wonder what they would say ms. satan err, gee me and my typos. i meant pelosi.
Another quote from Ms. Pelosi, regarding when life begins:
"The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on the woman's right to choose."
Ms. Pelosi, if it does not matter, then why not after birth? Why not before the first birthday? It shouldn't have an impact, right?

The Democrats want there to be controversy, so there can be wiggle room, but Scripture is clear:
* I came that they may have life and have it to the full (John 10:10)
* I set before you life and death; choose life that you may live (Deuteronomy)
Don't have the quotes off the top of my head, but Catholics back to 100 A.D. have said it is evil to procure an abortion. And they use the word abortion in their quotes.
Nancy is no more a Catholic than the KKK are Christians.
So, Nancy has appointed herself Pope?
I look at the marketing behind the esteemed Democratic Presidential Candidate, and I see what his associates say and do, and I am frightened by the posturing. This group is truly using messianic imagery and pandering to the faithful.
Brothers and Sisters, read the Word of the true God that you will not be deceived by the counterfeit! I life in the Denver area, and am familiar with Archbishop Chaput.
I have severe disagreements with the Roman church, but admire the Archbishop as a man of integrity and strength. May God bless him as he continues to speak the Truth about abortion!
