2017 Hyundai Ioniq Release Date, Specs, Price News: All-New Hybrid Arriving to Dealers with $30,335 Starting Price
The 2017 Ioniq is set to arrive in dealerships nationwide within the next month so Hyundai has announced pricing for the electric vehicle. The Hyundai Ioniq impresses not only because of its competitive pricing that seemingly undercuts the popular Toyota Prius but also because it is the first electric vehicle to offer three different powertrain options for consumers.
"Ioniq will attract an entirely new group of eco- and efficiency-oriented buyers in the U.S. market. With outstanding powertrain flexibility, design, connectivity, and advanced technologies, Ioniq meets the needs of a large and growing group of buyers needing a highly efficient, enjoyable to drive, low-emissions vehicle without compromise to their daily lifestyles," said Mike O'Brien, vice president of Corporate and Product Planning for Hyundai Motor America.
The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq features a sleek and aerodynamic exterior design language. It is also equipped with aluminum and lightweight components for significant weight reduction without affecting the overall driving experience.
It will be offered with convenience features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging and a new 7-inch instrument cluster display. Safety features available with the eco-friendly vehicle include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid will be available in three trims: Blue ($22,200), SEL ($23,950) and Limited ($27,500).
Both the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will be powered by a 1.6-liter direct-injected Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine that is mated to a six-speed EcoShift double-clutch transmission to deliver 104 horsepower and 109 pound-feet of torque.
The hybrid variant's electric motor uses a 1.56-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery which yields 43 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. It can operate at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour (mph). Overall, the powertrain produces 139 horsepower. Blue, the base model of the range, is able to attain an estimated rating of 58 miles per gallon (mpg) for combined driving.
On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid uses an 8.9-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery for an all-electric range of 27 miles. It also produces 60 horsepower on its own.
Meanwhile, the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric will have two variants: Electric ($29,500) and Limited ($32,500). All prices will incur an additional freight charge of $835.
The Ioniq Electric is powered by an electric motor with a 28-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery for 124 miles of driving range. It is able to deliver 118 horsepower and 218 pound-feet of torque. The electric motor is mated to a single-speed reduction-gear transmission. It also has an estimated rating of 136 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), which is said to be the highest efficiency rating attained by an electric vehicle in the U.S. market.
All prices mentioned will incur an additional freight charge of $835.
