'A Savior Is Born' Viral Christmas Video Created by Mormon Church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has released a Christmas-themed video on YouTube that has quickly garnered massive attention.

"A Savior Is Born — Christmas Video" was uploaded on the first Sunday of Advent and has already garnered more than 348,000 views.

The video features a diverse collection of young people quoting the biblical account of the birth of Jesus, focusing on the prophecy in the Old Testament Book of Isaiah and the Gospel account of Luke.

"Each Christmas season we celebrate the birth of our Savior—the Son of God, who can save us from sin and sadness. Remember Him, love Him, and follow Him," read the video's description in part.

The YouTube video also included a link to a webpage by the Mormon Church centered on Christmas, which included links to other videos and promotion of the Book of Mormon.

"Jesus Christ was born to save us from our sins, born so we can be born again and return to live with God someday. Let us rejoice greatly this Christmas season, for unto all of us #ASaviorIsBorn," read the link.

Greg Droubay, director of media for the Church's Missionary Department, explained to Deseret News the reasoning for the focus on children for the "A Savior is Born" video.

"For this Christmas effort, we felt it important to take a different approach, featuring children and locations from around the world," said Droubay.

"We're all one human family, children of God, no matter our backgrounds. And we all have a need for the Savior in our lives."

This is not the first time that the Mormon Church has used social and traditional media to get the word out during the Christmas season.

Last year, the LDS Church released a YouTube video titled "He is the Gift," which also included an ad in New York's Times' Square and the Twitter hashtag #ShareTheGift.

Released November of 2014, as of Tuesday the "He is the Gift" video garnered well over 4.6 million views as well as 28,000+ likes and 2,800+ dislikes.
