Amazon Did Not Pull Anti-LGBT Book, Author Confirms

Contrary to several reports posted online at various news sources, the major online retail website Amazon.com did not pull a book critical of the gay rights movement.

Recently, the Amazon page for Maybe He's Not Gay: Another View on Homosexuality by Linda Harvey was removed from the commercial website.

Harvey, author of the book and head of the Ohio-based conservative organization Mission America, told The Christian Post on Friday that it was removed from the website at her request.

"I saw the rotten reviews, a smear campaign by those who had not read the book, and the publisher attempted to get Amazon to pull the ad hominem reviews, but they were not immediately responsive," said Harvey.

"So, since the book is brand new and I didn't want it to be harmed by this uninformed and vicious campaign stimulated by 'gay' bloggers, I decided to pull the page for now."

Harvey also told CP that Amazon left the option open to put it back online and that she and her publisher "will probably re-post it in the near future."

"We have the option to re-post it, but hopefully by that time, the book will have been read by others who will be honest and sincere, and at any rate, fair in providing reviews," said Harvey.

A longtime critic of the claims of the gay rights movement, Harvey's book focuses on questioning the conclusions of youth who self-identify as gay.

"As more and more young people announce this is their identity, it's time to take a closer look. It's a profound declaration, a new civil right (they are told), and it's 'who you are.' But there's a problem. Are we sure this is the truth?" reads a description.

The book received much negative attention from various LGBT groups and activists, including Will Kohler of the LGBT rights group Back2Stonewall.

"Amazon.com is currently selling a potentially dangerous book aimed at parents and LGBT youth and teens," wrote Kohler on Wednesday.

"That Amazon.com would sell such a potentially dangerous book full of anti-gay propaganda to an already at-risk group of LGBT youth and their parents by a well known radical hate group leader is beyond disgusting."

When the book was pulled from Amazon's site, many news sources initially presumed that the online company was responding to complaints from LGBT activists.

This included The Huffington Post, which later offered a correction update, and Kohler of Back2Stonewall that reported earlier this week that Amazon decided to remove the book.

When asked by CP her opinions of the allegations of bigotry, Harvey responded that she took exception to the charge.

"This book reflects concern for all students, concern about the damage homosexual behavior and activism is doing in young people's lives and to our country," said Harvey. .

"Anyone who reads the book with an open mind and a fair appraisal will not think it's hateful, but exactly the opposite."

A spokesperson for Amazon.com stated that it was the publisher who had opted to pull the book. This was possibly at the request of Harvey.
