'Batgirl' Rumors: Joss Whedon Attached to Direct; Lindsey Morgan to Play Batgirl?
The reign of female superheroes is here. With Marvel's "Captain Marvel" starring Brie Larson and DC's "Wonder Woman" starring Gal Gadot, it was only a matter of time that a "Batgirl" movie would get made.
DC has become known for its darker take on the superhero genre, especially with Marvel's more light-hearted and comedic films. However, it looks like DC is ready to up their game as Joss Whedon has been tapped to direct the upcoming "Batgirl" standalone movie.
It can be recalled that Whedon helmed the first two "Avengers" films for Marvel, "The Avengers" in 2012 and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015. Additionally, he co-created "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." under Marvel. He was also the mind behind the successful "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" series and the short-lived "Firefly."

According to Variety, Whedon will direct, write and produce the yet-to-be titled film focusing on Batgirl. So far, his is the only name on the list as producer.
The publication also reports that the Batgirl who will be featured in the upcoming flick will be Barbara Gordon, Gotham City commissioner James Gordon's daughter. An actress has yet to be cast in the iconic role, but rumor has it that Lindsey Morgan is the frontrunner.
Morgan, who is known for her role as Raven Reyes on The CW's "The 100," sparked speculations when she took to her Twitter account to express her excitement about a "new project." And while she did not say anything about playing the role of Batgirl, her retweet activity did raise quite a few eyebrows.
For instance, Morgan retweeted Variety's article about Whedon potentially directing the film. The actress also retweeted and liked articles reporting on her rumored casting.
However, since nothing can be confirmed at this point, readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt.
