Beyonce Pens Open Letter to the Late Donna Summer

Beyonce Knowles has spoken out about the passing of legendary "Queen of disco," Donna Summer who died at the age of 63 on Thursday.

"Donna Summer made music that moved me both emotionally and physically to get up and dance. You could always hear the deep passion in her voice. She was so much more than the queen of disco she became known for, she was an honest and gifted singer with flawless vocal talent. I've always been a huge fan and was honored to sample one of her songs. She touched many generations and will be so sadly missed. My love goes out to her family during this difficult time. Love, B," Beyonce wrote on her personal website.

Summer, who rose to fame in the 1970s with hit songs including "Last Dance" and "Hot Stuff," died in Florida after succumbing to lung cancer, according to TMZ.

"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time," Summer's family said in a statement to Essence.com.

The musical icon leaves behind her husband of 32 years Bruce Sudano, three daughters and four grandchildren.

Beyonce, who is currently preparing for her Memorial day weekend come back concert in Atlantic City NJ, has become slightly more open to the public since giving birth to her first child baby Blue Ivy in January.

The usually private 30-year-old also recently wrote an open letter to First Lady Michelle Obama, thanking her for being a great role model for Blue Ivy.

"Michelle, thank you so much for every single thing that you do for us – I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you, to look up to. Michelle, is the ULTIMATE example of a truly strong African American woman. She is a caring mother, she's a loving wife, while at the same time, she is the FIRST LADY!!" Beyonce wrote.

"No matter the pressure, and the stress of being under the microscope – she's humble, loving, and sincere. She builds and nurtures her family, while also looking out for so many millions in so many ways," she added before ending it off with "Love, Beyoncé."
