CP World Report: Anglican-Catholic Church, Gaza Christians, Iranian Pastors, Fifty Shades of Grey
In a joint venture between Anglicans and Catholics in England, a new post is being developed to help and support parishes of the "Catholic Church of England" . Its purpose is to promote Anglican-Catholic evangelism and to encourage the growth of churches within this constituency. The title of the post is "National Adviser in Catholic Evangelism". The new role will be combined with the role of Vicar of St Matthew's, Carver Street, in Sheffield. The process of filling the new post is expected to start in the fall.
Authorities arrested one suspect connected with a brutal attack at a Christian camp in central Mexico last week. A group of a dozen armed attackers ambushed the retreat, going on a rampage of beatings, rape and robbery. The attackers also stole a number of items, including cell phones, cameras, cash and two vehicles. The camp was located about 20 miles from Mexico City. Authorities say they have also identified the names of the remaining suspects. The Mexican government says it is offering psychological, legal and medical assistance to the victims.
Following the release of two American hostages and their tour guide, the Americans were reunited with their families in northern Israel. They'd been kidnapped in the Sinai region last Friday, after gunmen boarded their tour bus on its way to Israel. Kidnappings and armed robberies have increased in the area since Hosni Mubarak was ousted last year. U-S Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stressed the importance of security in the region.
It's been unheard of until now: forcible conversions to Islam in Gaza. Two members of the Christian community were not only forced to convert, but also held against their will with a Muslim religious official. And just as rare was a Christian protest in the region because of it, where dozens of Christians turned out. Only about 1500 Christians live in Gaza among 1.7 million Muslims. Gaza's Archbishop Alexious has called for the converts to be returned to their families.
Banking giant H-S-B-C is accused of working with banks in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh that may be linked to terrorism financing. That's according to a Senate subcommittee report, where its Chairman –Senator Carl Levin explains…..
We've been bringing you updates about imprisoned pastor Youcef Nadharkhani being held in an Iranian jail for being an apostate. His case has been high profile, thanks to the publicity efforts of the American Center of Law and Justice . But there is another Iranian pastor facing something similar: Pastor Benham Irani. He's also in jail for being an apostate. Christian Solidarity Worldwide says he is being beaten regularly by inmates and tortured by guards; so much that he lost consciousness three days ago. Although he has regained it, his health is in steady decline. Christian solidarity Worldwide has called on Iran to honour its obligations as a signatory to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; and…to put a stop to the beatings, release Pastor Irani, along with….. Pastor Youcef Nadharkhani.
UK Hotel guests may get a shock next time they reach for a copy of the Gideon Bible from their bedside cabinet at the Damson Dene hotel near Windermere, Cumbria. The Hotel Manager decided to replace the bible with copies of the popular racy novel Fifty Shades of Grey. Over 20-million copies of that book have been sold and the series promises to quote….obsess you, possess you and stay with you forever. Hotel General Manager, Wayne Bartholomew says he made the decision to replace the holy book for the unholy one, after a discussion with his 3200 fans on Facebook
