Marco Rubio gave a brief address at a Republican pre-convention dinner party hosted by the Hispanic Leadership Network yesterday. He is viewed as the Hispanic star that could boost much needed support from that demographic where Barack Obama leads Romney 62 to 24 percent among Latino voters. The largely Hispanic, pro-life, pro-traditional marriage population is the fastest growing in America, rising at a rate of 43% in the past decade. Tomorrow night Rubio makes his big debut on the national political stage when he introduces presidential nominee Mitt Romney at the Republican National Convention.
The Democratic National Convention starts on Monday and its Committee is raising eyebrows after making the decision to host Islamic Jumah prayers for two hours this Friday, ahead of its convention. The three day event is called: "Jumah at the DNC." And….it was given the thumbs up, right after it a Catholic Cardinal's request to say a prayer at the same event …was denied by the Democratic National Committee. The Muslim prayers is hosted by the "Bureau of Indigenous Muslim Affairs," which seeks recognition by the United Nations. A main organizer of this event has been traced back to having links with Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood front organizations. In fact, Siraj Wahhaj was quoted in a speech as calling for all Muslims to push for an American islamic caliphate. He also served as a character witness to the infamous "Blind Sheik" during his 1995 trial. The Blind Sheik was convicted of plotting to blow up the World Trade Center .Islamic Jumah prayers is expected to draw a crowd of about 20-thousand , but many moderate Muslim leaders are opposed to the event.
An Israeli court has ruled….its military was not at fault for a U.S. activist getting crushed by an army bulldozer during a 2003 demonstration. The bulldozer driver has said he didn't see 23-year-old Rachel Corrie, a pro-Palestinian activist, who was trying to block the vehicle's path during a demonstration in the Gaza Strip against the military's demolition of Palestinian homes. Rachel mother's Cyndi Corrie issued her own personal statement, following the decision…..
TAG: District Court Judge--Oded Gershon-- ruled…it was an accident and that Rachel put herself in a dangerous situation. Corrie's parents were also seeking a million dollars for compensation and legal expenses. Their lawyer, Hussein Abu Hussein, said he intends to appeal the ruling to Israel's Supreme Court
Over 12 thousand faithful Greek-Catholics are trapped in a small village in Syria, in the area of Homs. They're living on "bread and water", and are low on needed medical supplies. For over ten days the village of Rableh is subject to a strict blockade by armed opposition groups. 3 young men were recently killed by snipers. A Church leader issued a call to allow humanitarian aid in… to help the needy, in observance of international humanitarian law. Local Christian leaders ask the warring parties to spare the areas where civilians live and to safeguard the cultural and religious heritage of the country.
The newly appointed archbishop for San Francisco is apologizing after being arrested for Driving Under the Influence. He was in the San Diego area and says police told him he was over the legal limit for alcohol. Take a listen……
A dire update on Pastor Behnam Irani, a Christian leader imprisoned in Iran. Reports are going out that he is being severely beaten and was found unconscious several times in his prison cell. Now he has a bleeding ulcer and a blood infection. 41 year old Irani is facing a five year jail sentence for apostasy. He joined Christianity in 1992 and started preaching a decade later. He has a wife and two children….3 and 10. Present Truth Ministries, an organization that has been in contact with Irani , is trying to raise awareness about him to the international community as fears for his life are mounting.
Renowned Evolutionary biologist and atheist Richard Dawkins, has conducted an interview with Playboy magazine. He discussed a host of topics related to science and religion . Dawkins, the author of "The God Delusion" admitted that he had not read the entire Bible, but knew it well enough to consider himself more knowledgeable on the subject than most Christians. He also said that his favorite book is Ecclesiastes, because of it's wonderful poetry in 17th century English. On the topic of a single deity, he doesn't believe it but the idea of some kind of Creative intelligence is quote…."not so ridiculous"
