'Deadpool' Movie and Cast News: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano Confirmed for Film

After what fans called a disappointing appearance in the movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the psychologically unstable mercenary and "anti-hero" Deadpool will have his own solo movie, simply entitled "Deadpool." Twentieth Century Fox finally greenlighted the movie in 2014, five years after the 2009 "Wolverine" movie. It will be released in theaters on February 12, 2016.

Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool in the Origins movie, was the first cast member confirmed sometime in December 2014. He is said to be working closely with the movie's director, Tim Miller, who will make his directorial debut with this film.

Reynolds is said to be big fan of the character. In the report, he came out assuring even the "most rabid of fans" that the upcoming movie will be loyal to the "canon of the character."

"I'm incredibly happy about it – we've got a director that understands that world, and writers with a slavish devotion to the canon of that character. That's the most important aspect: it's made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace," he told Cinema Blend.

Miller is known for his work as a Virtual FX artist as well as the creator of effects company Blur Studio. During the time when 20th Century Fox was not yet decided on making the movie, Miller teamed up with Reynolds to come up with test footage based on a portion of an existing script. The footage eventually wound up online after studio executives reportedly rejected it. For the fans however, it was a hit. Deadpool creator and comic book writer/artist Rob Liefeld believed that it was the fans who clamored to make the movie happen.

Confirmed cast members include Morena Baccarin of "Firefly" who is rumored to play Deadpool's love interest; T.J. Miller of "Silicon Valley" will likely be Deadpool's sidekick Weasel and MMA fighter Gina Carano as the supermutant Angel Dust. Cast to play the villain is "Game of Thrones" actor Ed Skrein.

The "Deadpool" screenplay will be penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It is not clear whether they will use an earlier script they wrote back in 2010, but they are said to be working closely with Reynolds.

Deadpool or Wade Winston Wilson is a Marvel Comics character that appeared in "New Mutants" #98 in February 1991. He is also known as the "Merc with the Mouth" because he talks non-stop. His primary power is an accelerated healing factor that makes him virtually immortal and immune to most diseases.
