The highly rated drama series is broadcast not just on South Korean TV networks through KBS 2TV, it is also simultaneously shown in Chinese broadcasting platform iQiyi, according to the Korea Herald. The story takes place in a fictional country of Uruk, which is in a constant state of war. The show follows the story of friendship between doctor Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye-kyo) and army captain Yoo Si-jin (Song Joong-ki) that will eventually grow into something more.

The show enjoys very high ratings in South Korea and China, with an estimated viewership of 38.8 percent in the former — a very impressive figure for a show that's not on a weekend slot.

The second price went to "Barrier-free Opera," a popular radio series produced by KNN. Twelve other broadcast titles won the third prize, including "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," "Signal" and "Green Animal."

Previously, "Descendants of the Sun" was also recognized by other award-giving bodies, such as the 30th KBS Drama Awards and the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards.
