Detroit's form has been poor lately, with only three wins in their last nine matches. However, with the season winding down, they broke that slump and won their last game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In the 3-2 victory, Henrik Zetterberg scored the match's opening goal in the first two minutes of the second period. However, Carolina fought back and took the lead with two goals late in the period. Detroit found a way to bounce back and goals from Gustav Nyquist and Pavel Datsyuk ensured that they finished the game with two points.

After their match with the Canadiens, the Red Wings are set to meet the Hurricanes again for their final game of the season.

Meanwhile, the Canadiens are trying to secure the top seed in the Atlantic as they are currently lead the Tampa Bay Lightning by two points.

They are also trying to recover from a slump as they have only won two games in their last seven.

In their most recent match, they beat the Florida Panthers 4-1 behind goals from Tomas Plekanec, Brendan Gallagher, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and Devante Smith-Pelly.

Heading into their final meeting of the season, the teams have met thrice so far, with the Canadiens dominating with a 3-0 lead in the series. The last time they met in Canada, Montreal won 2-1 in an overtime victory.
