'Downton Abbey season 6 news, cast, spoilers: An emotional final season
"Downton Abbey" has done what not a lot of British shows have not succeeded on, and that's to cross over to the U.S. television and win over audiences. With the news that the next season will be the final one, many are heartbroken about it.
However, the tears were not reserved for audiences alone but to the actors who have been part of the series, as well. In a recent Vanity Fair issue, the last moments on set were described to be tearful, including four grown men sobbing. Jim Carter, who plays Carson on the show, shares, "I thought I would say good-bye to the crew who work so hard. Seeing their faces sobbing, it just did me in. We were puddles."
Executive producer Garent Neame during the Edinburgh TV Festival said that it wasn't only Carter who had been in that state. He revealed that the cutting room had "four middle-aged men trying not to cry in front of each other." Yet Neame didn't divulge details on what could have caused those tears to fall.

The final episode of Downton Abbey will air its last season on Jan. 3 in the United States. There aren't much details on the finale; however, Carter did give us a bit of clue on what could happen. He carefully states, "I am not going to give a spoiler, but these characters, we say good-bye to them, but it is not final. . . . We see them setting off on different paths."
Another clue about what could happen this season is that the Crawleys will sell off parts of their estate and let go some staff to adjust to the economy's downfall. Downton Abbey will air in the United Kingdom over the holidays, as he adds, "It is really satisfying. You will need two hankies on Christmas night." The statement implies that the finale involving Matthew can definitely bring people to tears.
