'Empire' season 2 plot news: Cookie starts her own label
The second episode of "Empire" season 2 is set to premiere in a few days, which had paved the way for the release of its synopsis.
It was reported that while the premiere episode of "Empire" portrayed Lucious Lyon in his situation at the jail, the second episode will show the power he still has behind bars. Episode 2 of "Empire" will be titled "Without a Country" and it will feature a brand-new song from Lucious Lyon. He will attempt to record the track in jail. It was also shared that Ludacris will be playin a corrections officer in the jail called Officer McKnight. There were also speculations that a new lawyer will finally get Lucious Lyon out of jail.
Meanwhile, the synopsis for the second episode stated that Cookie, played by Taraji P. Henson, will try to start her own record label. She will have the support of Anika, played by Grace Gealey, Hakeem, played by Bryshere Y. Gray, and Andre, played by Trai Bryers. However, they will face their struggles since they all have different perspectives in the upcoming project.
As for Empire, Jamal, played by Jussie Smollet, will keep control of the label, which has Cookie fearing that he is beginning to act like his father. Showrunner Ilene Chaiken recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Jamal and his new responsibilities. She said, "Jamal becoming the head of Empire, especially with his father in prison, is very much a case of: Be careful what you wish for. The second he gets the opportunity, Jamal will bust out of his corporate chains because Jamal is an artist at heart, and he is really suffering under the burden of responsibility. He needs to get back to making his art. He needs to get back on his journey to becoming a star, which he had just begun when he got derailed by Lucious' incarceration."
"Empire" season 2 is expected to air on FOX this Sept. 30.
