'Fargo' Season 3 Air Date, News: FX Sets April 19 Premiere for Crime Anthology Series
FX has officially given "Fargo" season 3 a premiere date. After a long wait since the conclusion of its second season, the anthology series is finally returning on April 19.
The upcoming third season of the black comedy crime drama will follow Emmit and Ray Stussy, two brothers who are both played by Ewan McGregor. Ray, a heavy parole officer who is losing all his hair, blames his more successful brother for his failures. Emmit is the stark opposite in that he is both rich and handsome, having been dubbed as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota.
Joining McGregor are Michael Stuhlbarg and Jim Gaffigan who play Sy Feltz and Donny Mashman, respectively. Feltz is Emmit's right-hand man, while Mashman is the local police deputy. David Thewlis plays V.M. Vargas, a mysterious loner, and Scoot McNairy plays Maurice LeFay, a stoner with a history of illegal activities.
Carrie Coon and Mary Elizabeth Winstead portray Gloria Burgle and Nikki Swango, respectively. Coon's character is a divorced police chief, while Winstead's is a clever parolee who always keeps one step ahead of everyone else.
Karan Soni, Fred Melamed and Thomas Mann round out the cast with their respective characters Dr. Homer Gilruth, Howard Zimmerman and Thaddeus Mobley.
It has been said that season 3 of "Fargo" will have connections to its predecessors, as well as tackle some of the more pressing issues the world is facing right now. "Noah is going to have a lot of fun embracing and commenting on the world today," executive producer Warren Littlefield said in January (via The Hollywood Reporter).
And while calling back to past seasons is definitely a part of the new one, Littlefield also pointed out that character development for the current set is crucial. "I think the important thing about year three is intimacy," Littlefield said. "We're a smaller cast. And it allows us to go deeper with each of these characters. Noah does not want to repeat himself."
"Fargo" season 3 will premiere on Wednesday, April 19, at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
