Farrah Abraham Exclusive: 'Teen Mom' Talks Faith, New Book on Parenting and Being Labeled a Porn Star
Former "Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham has frequently been in the news since appearing on the MTV show "16 & Pregnant" and recently spoke to The Christian Post about rumors in the media, the importance of faith in her life, and managing her businesses ventures.
"There are many, I think many questions, and the biggest misconception [in the media] is the label of 'porn star,'" Abraham told The Christian Post about the rumors and beliefs of her image in the media. "Luckily, with my faith, I'm stronger than the false labels and they do not define me."
Abraham is a single mother—boyfriend and father of daughter Sophia, Derek Underwood—passed away before Sophia was even born. She has struggled to come to grips with the tragic loss and raise her daughter with the help of her parents, all while being filmed for "16 & Pregnant" and then "Teen Mom." The reality star explained the impact being on TV has had on her life.
"I'm thankful for the TV experiences I've had and continue to have, as I take away from this how to better myself, connect with myself, and really improve … not only for myself, but so I can improve the world in my own way that my faith has led me to. I've experienced a lot I never imagined while cameras were rolling: death, fights, childbirth, breakups, being kicked out, stress beyond words, depression, and many more obstacles. I'm blessed by using TV as a tool to better myself and always being able to look back when I need to remember learning a lesson."
Abraham credits God for allowing her to be on TV and pressing her with the "right opportunities at the right times to help prepare me for the best Farrah I can be. No matter where I am, whether it's in a gentlemen's club or church, I know my faith is what guides me."
Of course, her life has not been without controversy. After leaving the "Teen Mom" franchise, the single mom was featured in an adult video and then decided to follow it up with a sequel. She has also written three erotic novels and often promotes her work, as well as various companies, while appearing in bars or gentlemen's clubs. When asked whether she saw conflict between her work and faith, Abraham said that she always lets God lead her life.
"Many would look at what I do and feel as though there is a conflict," Abraham said. "If you know what faith is, and you truly try to understand the examples of God in the Bible and learn and reflect on them, just know I didn't pick what I'm doing nor did I share the full details of how I got to be where I am, as you may judge in black and white from the outside. I let God lead my life and faith—enough said."
While maintaining a public persona is difficult, Abraham is also busy raising daughter Sophia, who recently started school. Abraham made the decision to homeschool Sophia in order to keep her out of the spotlight and protect her from possible ridicule. She is currently writing a Christian parenting book and credits God and her faith with raising a strong, independent daughter.
"Faith is number one in my heart and mind. Without this, I would not be the best parent I could be, and my daughter would not be as gifted as she is. I can't say enough and be thankful enough. Faith allows me to feel balanced, grow endlessly, and always feel loved," Abraham said.
