'Fear the Walking Dead' episode 2 plot spoilers and pilot episode recap: LA goes into chaos

In the upcoming episode of "Fear the Walking Dead," Travis (Cliff Curtis) will look for his son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) before the whole of Los Angeles falls. Meanwhile, Madison (Kim Dickens) will struggle to keep Nick (Frank Dillane) from the devastating effects of withdrawal.

The episode is titled "So Close, Yet So Far" and it shows the newly blended family trying to get out of Los Angeles amid the continuing epidemic that no one understands. In the promos for the next episode, Los Angeles is in complete chaos as the zombie apocalypse begins and the people become scared of the unknown. Hence, the title "Fear the Walking Dead."

In the previous episode, the series began with Nick walking up after a drug-induced slumber inside a church that is filled with drug addicts. He looks for his girlfriend Gloria as he walks around the dilapidated place. He then hears a lot of earsplitting thuds and he finds a lifeless guy with a chunk of him missing. He finally finds his girlfriend consuming another dead addict. He runs away only to be hit by a car.

In the meantime, Madison is calling her daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) to get ready since they are already late. Travis is attempting to fix the sink, while she is making breakfast. Madison gets a call from the hospital and learns that Nick has been hit by a car. She goes to the hospital with Travis and Alicia.

At the hospital, Nick is being questioned by the police until Madison kicks them out. Travis offers to stay with Nick, while she goes to the high school with her daughter. Nick tells Travis about what happened in the church, while Tobias, a student, tells Madison about a mysterious epidemic that has infected five states.

Travis then investigates the church and finds some carnage but no bodies. He only finds a scared junkie begging not to be killed. Nick escapes from the hospital as his mother and Travis look for him. They eventually find Nick and his old friend Calvin, who has become a walker. The episode ends with Madison asking Travis what the hell is going on.
