'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 3: Showrunner to Exit After Third Season

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 3 is set to premiere sometime this summer, but it will also mark Dave Erickson's last stint as showrunner of the AMC spin-off series.

According to Variety, Erickson is to step down after the upcoming third season of "Fear the Walking Dead." This is because of his new deal with AMC Studios. Fans need not worry though as Erickson will still stay on as an executive producer.

"We're beyond grateful for Dave's amazing work on the first three seasons of 'Fear the Walking Dead,'" AMC president of original programming and development Joel Stillerman said, Variety reports. "We are also incredibly excited that Dave has chosen to stay in the AMC family to pursue his next passion project. We look forward to many more successful collaborations."

Erickson, on the other hand, is very excited about what his future in AMC holds. "I look forward to completing work on season three, sharing it with the fans and developing new projects with my partners at AMC," he said.

Season 3 of the AMC zombie series will see a few changes taking place. First of all, the characters went through a lot of sacrifices and turmoil in the previous season. Fans can expect these experiences to have some sort of effect on them, particularly Travis (Cliff Curtis), who killed his son's murderers in the penultimate episode of season 2.

Secondly, new faces are joining the cast rosters in season 3. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum Emma Caulfield is playing a mystery role, although it is speculated that her character is one of the members--or the leader--of the group who captured Nick (Frank Dillane) and Luciana (Danay Garcia). Joining Caulfield is Daniel Sharman, who is best known for his stint on "Teen Wolf," in a series regular role. According to TheWrap, Sharman will portray Troy, who possesses both charisma and cruelty in him.

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 3 will premiere in the summer on AMC.
