Fitbit Alta HR Release Date, Specs: New Tracker Brings Updated Heart Rate Monitoring Feature
Fitbit recently announced that they are cooking up an update to their previous Alta tracker and promised it would sport a more advanced heart rate monitoring feature.
According to reports, Fitbit made it known earlier this week that they are launching the Fitbit Alta HR with additional heart rate sensors to achieve the promised upgraded feature. The device was announced during the company's fourth quarter financial meeting where analysts had the chance to ask if a new tracker is in the pipeline.
Polygon notes that the Alta HR becomes the fourth Fitbit tracker to have heart rate sensing capabilities, following the Charge, Blaze, and Surge. The same report shared that the company has been working on the Alta HR for about a year now, according to Shelten Yuen, Fitbit's director of research and development.

According to the Polygon report, Yuen likewise shared that the Fitbit Alta HR can last up to an entire week (also mentioned in Fitbit's website) after one full battery charge. However, the official video ad for the tracker claims just five days of battery life.
Apart from the added heart rate sensors, Fitbit also promised that the Alta HR will bring in a detailed sleep tracking feature. With the help of the advanced heart rate monitoring capacity, the tracker will be able to determine its owner's sleep stages that go from being awake, to rapid eye movement, light sleep and deep sleep.
The Alta HR has nothing much new going on, especially in terms of design. However, Yuen reportedly added that they enlisted help from Texas Instruments as they worked on coming up with sensors that are 25 percent smaller than what is inside the Charge 2. With that, it is reportedly the thinnest smartwatch or fitness tracker in the world. But apart from that, it has the same dimensions with the Fitbit Alta released in 2016.
The Fitbit Alta HR is now available for pre-order for $150 or the same price as Charge 2. Its shipment will start sometime in April.
