Franklin Graham Defends Mike Pence From Bashers, Says Satan Wants to Destroy Marriages

Billy Graham's son Franklin has come to the defense of U.S. Vice President Mike Pence after the latter was lambasted for refusing to dine alone with a woman who is not his wife.

Pence earlier revealed that he is adhering to the "Billy Graham Rule," according to the Charlotte Observer. The said rule, which was drafted in 1948 and initially called the "Modesto Manifesto," was created to keep Graham and other evangelists free from sin as they traveled around the world. One of the rules is that they should never be alone with another woman.

When critics learned that Pence was a stickler to this rule, they called him silly, archaic, and narrow-minded. But Franklin begged to differ. Franklin believes Pence is "smart" because "Satan is perpetually trying to destroy homes and marriages," and it is wise to "protect and guard the things you cherish."

"I'm thankful we have a Vice President who respects and protects his marriage! Vice President Mike Pence has been catching some flak for statements he made about rules he and his wife Karen have in place," Franklin wrote on Facebook. "Proactively setting boundaries for protection of your marriage is important to avoid Satan's traps. No one is immune or beyond failure. My parents had rules, as my wife Jane and I have, and as the Pences have. It's not sexist, as some in the media want to make it out."

Dr. James Dobson, founder and host of "Family Talk," also defended Pence from his bashers. He said he could not believe the amount of ridicule that Pence faced because of his commitment to the Billy Graham Rule. Dobson said Pence should actually be admired for loving his spouse enough to safeguard his marriage.

"I have seen some crazy things, but this has got to be one of the stupidest that I have heard," Dobson said on the Family Talk radio program. "I have known Mike Pence for 25 years. He is a godly man, a good family man, husband and father. He lives by the highest standards of ethics."
