'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Cast News: Ed Sheeran Set for Guest Appearance

The hype for the return of "Game of Thrones" is already building, as news of a special guest star was announced at the recent SXSW panel in Austin, Texas. Creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed that Ed Sheeran will be making an appearance in season 7.

"Game of Thrones" has been known to include special appearances by musicians, but Sheeran's role is particularly special because actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, is a huge fan of his music.

"For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it," Benioff revealed (via Entertainment Weekly).

But notable names from the music industry are not the only ones who are welcome to appear on "Game of Thrones." Season 7 has another famous star on its roster--Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who filmed his stint on the show in Spain in November 2016.

However, Sheeran's and Syndergaard's roles have yet to be revealed. At this point, they could play a number of different characters or extras. Coldplay's Will Champion and Sigur Rós' Jónsi Birgisson were musicians at the Red Wedding and Joffrey's wedding, respectively, while Mastodon members portrayed reanimated Wildlings.

The first teaser trailer for season 7 has already been released. And even though it did not really feature any footage from the upcoming cycle, it was still enough to strike excitement in fans everywhere, especially with Jon Snow teasing the Great War.

With a war between humans and the White Walkers coming, the new season promises a lot of action. And, according to Kit Harington, it is all going to be well worth the wait.

"I certainly did more this season than I've ever done. I think every actor on it did more action, had more action, had more scenes," Harington told Huffington Post.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer, though, before they can witness everything. "Game of Thrones" season 7 is set to premiere on July 16.
