'Homeland' Season 6 News: Showtime Announces New Installment To Be Set In New York

After a season filming outside of the United States, Showtime's hit spy drama TV series "Homeland" is now coming back home. According to the latest report, Season 6 of the Claire Danes-starred show will be set in New York City.

"Homeland will be shot next year in New York City, in and around New York," Showtime boss David Nevins was quoted as saying by Entertainment Weekly during the Television Critics Association's press tour in Pasadena. "It will be set domestically. It will be set primarily in the New York area, but not exclusively."

The executive producer further believes that the new setting might offer a big relief to the cast who have been constantly away from the country to shoot the previous seasons. The writers themselves are quite keen in touching prevalent issues happening in the country.

"I think the actors will be happy to be back in the U.S. for a year," the EP later told EW in an exclusive interview. "I don't think it's necessarily going to stay there forever, but there was a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team."

Exactly how the story will continue and what plot the beloved characters will tread into, it is yet to be revealed. However, there have been speculations indicating that the show might cover some sensitive topics concerning the current American politics, most especially on the "Muslim immigration fears."

"They don't tend to [use] real people, but they tend to find themes that are real, so it's possible," Nevins clarified to the media outlet.

Meanwhile, the show boss discussed the matters concerning the character roster. Spoiler alert for those who missed the "Homeland" Season 5 finale, the show ended with Peter Quinn's life hanging in the balance. Just like what HBO's "Game of Thrones" did with its beloved character, the network has yet to reveal the fate of Rupert Friend's alter-ego.

According to Nevins, if Quinn should get past the life-or-death situation, fans should expect some big changes on the life of the operative.

Showtime has yet to announce the return date of "Homeland." Stay tuned for more updates.
