'Insidious 3' Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Prequel to Focus on Elise's Past

Blumhouses' next film "Insidious: Chapter 3" will serve as a prelude to the first two chapters of the franchise. Some aspects from Chapters 1 and 2 will be explored in the upcoming installment.

Apparently, this has been verified when a recently published interview with "Insidious 3" director Leigh Whannell revealed that the title will delve deeper into one of the franchise's mainstays.

CineMovie unveiled details of their visit to the movie set last year.

Played by Lin Shaye, the major supporting character Elise Rainier has been present throughout the span of the hit supernatural horror film series, and it is the wish of Whannell that her story be told more to the audience.

"Being able to go back and being able to tell a little bit of an origin story and to have Elise alive again ... I love Elise as a character, especially Lin Shaye as an actress, so I wanted to see Lin Shaye alive and I wanted to dig into her back story," he said.

He also addressed the cliffhanger from the previous sequel, confirming that it won't be tackled in Chapter 3.

"We don't explore that cliff hanger in this one and I don't know if we will ever solve that, I'm not sure. I guess it depends if we make another film but I guess it depends if this one does well," the helmer said.

Avid followers of the nerve-wracking movie series, meanwhile, should also be on the look-out for some "easter eggs" in Chapter 3.

"Fans of the first two will see things and maybe even pick up on things more casual viewers don't, Whannell said. "Hopefully there are easter eggs in there hidden for the more hard core Insidious fans. Generally there is a connection to the first film."

"Insidious: Chapter 3" is slated to open in theatres June 5, 2015.
