iOS 11 Leaked, Comes With Information About iPhone 8 and 'iPhone X'?
A master of the iOS 11 has been leaked over the weekend, giving researchers a treasure trove of information on Apple's unreleased devices. The leak comes just days before the Apple special event on Sep. 12, where the company is expected to unveil the new iPhone models.
Speculations of a special iPhone X device might turn out to be true, after all, if the clues hidden in the leaked iOS turn out to be accurate. The iPhone X will be a suitable name for the 10-year anniversary release of Apple's flagship phone, as The Verge notes.
The accidental release of a build of the newest iOS version came just days before Apple was set to hold a keynote, which will also serve as the debut event for the brand-new Steve Jobs Theater on Sep. 12, at 1 p.m. EDT. During this event, the company is also expected to unveil not just the new venue, but also one or two highly-anticipated products, including new iPhone models.
This new iPhone X model could include the new facial recognition system by Apple, called Face ID, that might supersede the Touch ID. Stepping through the code of the leaked iOS 11, researchers also found out how Apple Pay might work with the new system, as detailed by Macrumors.
The new way to invoke Apple Pay might be to use the facial recognition to sign off a payment, and then confirmed by a double press of the side button, which also serves as the sleep and wake button, of the upcoming device.
Three models could be set to be confirmed by Apple, possibly by Tuesday, as mentioned by iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith via Twitter on Saturday, Sep. 9. The leaked iOS 11 code contained references to an iPhone X, as well as separate devices designated as iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus.
The iPhone X could feature Apple's new OLED-based bezel-less display in a similar design to Samsung's latest devices. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, meanwhile, could refer to devices that have non-OLED screens.
It looks like iPhone could be dropping the S branding for alternate iPhone models, if these speculations turn out to be correct.
