iPhone 5 Rumors: Device to Feature Longer 4-Inch Screen and Metal Backing
iLounge editor Jeremy Horowitz reported some interesting news on the iPhone 5 this week.
He claims to have some new details on the next-generation iPhone and even illustrated these rumored specifications and design choices in a concept image on iLounge.com.
"The new iPhone will indeed be longer and thinner than the iPhone 4 and 4S," wrote Horowitz. "Approximate measurements are 125mm by 58.5mm by 7.3mm- a 10mm jump in height, nearly 2mm reduction in thickness, and virtually identical width."

"According to our source Apple will make one major change to the rear casing, adding a metal panel to the central back of the new iPhone," continued Horowitz. "This panel will be flat, not curved, and metal, not ceramic. Our artist's rendition provides a rough idea of what this change will look like; it echoes the current-generation iMac design, to be sure."
iLounge also claimed that Apple will only partially use Corning's Gorilla Glass 2 for the iPhone 5 display and that the screen will grow to four inches diagonally.
Apple also will change the new iPhone's aspect ratio for the first time since the original iPhone was introduced in 2007 by adding additional pixels to the top and bottom of the screen, according to the site.
A smaller dock connector that is larger than the existing speaker and microphone openings on the iPhone 4S is also in the works for the next-generation model, according to iLounge, who described it as "pill-shaped."
iLounge is not always reliable, as Horowitz claimed he held the third-generation iPad in his hands shortly before its release and reported some features that ended up not being on tablet when it launched this past March.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone at this year's World Wide Developer's Conference. However, that has not been confirmed by company.
