'iZombie' New Show Premieres on The CW

Fans of the zombie genre who are looking for something a little more like "Warm Bodies" than "The Walking Dead" will be happy to know that a new show has premiered on The CW on Tuesday, March 17, which features a female zombie protagonist who has more to offer than your average "walker".

"iZombie" is a Rob Thomas ('Veronica Mars') show based on the DC comics of the same name. Much like Veronica Mars, "iZombie" begins with a young woman experiencing a life-changing trauma at a party. When she wakes up, Liv (Rose McIver) discovers that along with losing her life and becoming a zombie, she has also lost her positive attitude. The ex-medical student soon becomes a coroner who distances herself from those close to her for fear of infecting or harming them.

However, her secret comes out when her boss at the coroner's office, Dr. Ravi (Rahul Kohli) catches her eating brains at work. But instead of getting scared, Liv's current state inspires a childlike curiosity in Ravi.

Soon, Ravi becomes Liv's confidant, and she realizes that she doesn't have to hide. She discovers ways to relate to people, and when detective Clive Babineux (Malcolm Goodwin) stops by the coroner's office stuck on a case, Liv discovers that by eating a brain, she takes on the memories of the deceased's life, and sometimes it even includes the exact moment of their death. Liv also takes on certain aspects of the deceased's personality, which gives the show a lot of comedic moments.

"Zombies are ridiculous," said Kohli to TVGuide. "I think with something so ridiculous like that, comedy helps sell it a little bit. It's got to be one of the two. You either commit to it, you go serious and you go hard and you go 'Walking Dead', which is a brilliant show. Or you do the opposite, and you see the lighter side of that and you kind of take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy it as entertainment."

"iZombie" airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
