'Jessica Jones' Season 2 Spoilers: Jessica's Source of Superpowers To Be Exposed

Jessica (Krysten Ritter) and her origins may finally be revealed in the upcoming season of "Jessica Jones."

According to Bleeding Cool, the heroine's backstory, which has been previously teased in the first installment, may be featured in the new storyline. Although fans of the series are aware that Jessica got her superpowers soon after waking up from a coma following her family's fatal accident, most of her past remains a mystery. The shady organization, IGH, is speculated to be the one behind her transformation. It was revealed that the group financed Jessica's operations while she was recuperating in the hospital.

The story behind Jessica's superpowers is one of the mysteries that viewers would like to tap into in season 2. This will further explain why she acts the way she does and why she has a lot of baggage to deal with in the first place. Jessica is expected to continue her battle against her post-traumatic stress disorder. It will not help that her tormentor, Kilgrave (David Tennant), will return in the new installment. As spoilers indicate, the mind-controlling villain will be back to torment not only Jessica, but her friends as well.

In the promo photos released, Kilgrave is shown standing close to Jessica, as if urging her to do something bad. The heroine looks oblivious to his presence, which solidifies the speculations that this Kilgrave might be just a memory or worse, an invisible menace. He is also shown egging Malcolm (Eka Darville), pushing him to engage in an ugly fight with Jessica. It appears that the villain does not need to be physically present to bring chaos to Jessica's world. Ritter already teased that season 2 is going to be a bittersweet journey for her character.

"Even in the source material, so much stuff has happened to her. You feel for her ... Every time, you're just like, 'Ugh, she's been through so much.' Yet she still fights. Which is what we love about her," Ritter said in an interview with Bustle.

"The first season was in her head and the second season is in her heart," she added.

"Jessica Jones" season 2 is expected to air in 2018 on Netflix.
