Katie Holmes Divorce Hearing Set for July 17, Tom Cruise Talks to Suri
Katie Holmes will have a divorce hearing in her split from Tom Cruise on July 17 in New York City. The hearing will be before a Family Court judge at an order to show cause. An attorney has told The Christian Post that an order to show cause can be filed to request that the court issue a temporary order before the other side responds.
An order to show cause is often used when time is "of the essence" and where a party is requesting a decision be made faster than a notice of motion can provide.
Former Dawson's Creek star Katie Holmes' decision to suddenly announce her decision to file for divorce from husband Tom Cruise has stunned many in Hollywood. She has moved swiftly and with precision in going about moving away from Cruise while he was abroad filming. She has already appointed two divorce specialist lawyers to represent her through the divorce; Jonathan Wolfe of New Jersey and Allan Mayefsky of New York.

The news of the split has sent media outlets into a frenzy with rumors coming out by the hour regarding the divorce. Initially reports had said Katie Holmes had scheduled an emergency hearing to discuss custody and child support for their daughter, Suri Cruise. However, those reports have been refuted and have now been proven false.
Holmes' lawyer has said to E! News in a statement that "other than her action for divorce, the only pending application filed by Ms. Holmes remains her request for an anonymous caption."
Other reports also claimed that Tom Cruise had filed his own divorce application in California, however, again those reports seem to have been proven false.
Cruise reportedly has been left shocked and saddened by his wife's sudden move to divorce, and is particularly worried about his relationship with daughter Suri. However, unconfirmed reports have also stated that although he has not had face to face contact with Suri since the split was announced, he has been allowed to call her "several times a day."
Cruise celebrated his 50th birthday on Tuesday in somber style. It is believed he chose to fly to LA to meet his two other children, rather than be caught up in the media frenzy had he gone to New York to try and see Suri on his birthday.
According to the New York Daily News, Holmes has said that she's doing "all right" despite the mass attention now surrounding her and her daughter.
