Mel Gibson's Dad and Elder Abuse: New Charges Filed Against Wife

Mel Gibson's father has accused his soon-to-be ex-wife Teddy Joye of elder abuse, though she says she is trying to end his suffering. Hutton Gibson, 93, currently suffers from a variety of ailments, and Teddy is hoping to discontinue all treatment in the hope of ending the regimen.

Mel Gibson, Hutton's son, has fought to keep his father's routine the same and keep his medications supplied, TMZ has reported. Hutton needs his medication to maintain his health, and it is believed that Teddy has been cutting off his supply in the hope of ending his suffering, which would lead to his death.

She claims that he is suffering and no good can come of his continued medicated state.

Hutton Gibson filed for divorce on June 4 after a 10-year marriage to Teddy. The decision to file for divorce, and allege elder abuse, has apparently not come easy to Gibson, who is a devout Catholic. He is a fervent supporter of the organization Defending the Faith of Our Fathers, which promotes the Catholic faith.

Though Gibson and Teddy have no children together, he is seeking spousal support and payment of legal fees. His lawyer told RadarOnline.com, "I'm hoping this divorce won't be contentious. I'm not at liberty at this time to discuss why my client has decided to file for divorce, or why he is seeking spousal support."

Court documents cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce, stemming from March 28, 2012. Gibson was previously married to Mel's mother, Anne, who passed away in 2000. They had 11 children and 50 grandchildren.

Hutton, like son Mel, has always been in the spotlight. In addition to being a World War II veteran, he was also a Jeopardy champion. His fervent belief in Catholicism and disbelief of the Holocaust has caused him to remain in the spotlight, regardless of his age.

Now, it seems, he will stay in the spotlight until his final days.
