Michael Schumacher News: Pope Francis Among Those Praying For His Recovery

It has been two years since Michael Schumacher suffered badly from a devastating ski accident, and recent news about the athlete's condition is very scarce. His fans have been wondering what his current status is, and it seems like the news about his condition reached the Pope. Even the Vatican City leader is now praying for Schumcher's speedy recovery.

Schumacher's life changed after he crashed while skiing on the French Alps in December 2013. According to Express UK, he was in a coma for six months after the unfortunate accident, but he is now currently in his home at Lake Geneva, Switzerland, receiving 24-hour medical treatment, seven days a week.

During Schumacher's racing career, he was named as the most successful Formula One driver ever, with his record number of championships, according to the website. The 47-year-old racer drove for Mercedes, Jordan, Benetton, and of course, Ferrari.

According to Yahoo News, the Pope's prayer for the Formula One driver was requested by Jean Todt, the president of Formula One's governing body FIA. The website said that several vigils were already held for Schumacher, but Todt still asked the pontiff to pray for the seven-time Formula One champion. "I asked him if he wanted to say a prayer and he happily accepted," Todt said during his interview with Radio Vatican.

In another interview, Todt told ESPN UK that it's painful to see Schumcher in his current state because he said that the car race is like "family." "For Michael it is different because he is like my family and if you have somebody who is like family or is very close and is badly injured of course it is painful and you have to be there with the family," the FIA president said. He and Schumacher's fans are all hoping for the Formula One driver to get better soon.
