Nadya Suleman Nominated for Controversial Awards
Nadya Suleman has sparked further controversy after being nominated for four Adult Video News (AVN) awards, with many questioning whether the mother of 14 should be rewarded in such a way for turning to the adult industry to support her family financially.
The so-called "Ocotomom" will attend the awards event in January which will take place in Las Vegas. Reports have said that Suleman is excited about the nominations and plans to attend the event without her 14 children.
"I'm very excited to attend the AVN Awards," Nayda said, according to The Huffington Post. "I've never been to anything like that before so I'm really looking forward to it."
Suleman had previously stated that she would never resort to entering the adult industry, but this May she agreed to be filmed in an adult video after facing bankruptcy and being unable to support her 14 children. She later stated that she would do anything to provide for her kids.
"I'm totally honored and blown away to even be nominated," she told the Post. She also added in a separate interview that she was "completely surprised" to receive the honor.
While she stated that she did not consider herself a celebrity she was hopeful about winning.
"I don't consider myself a celebrity, but I have never heard of the other people nominated. So I'm pretty sure I have a good chance of winning."
But a number of online users addressed the issue of Suleman's children, questioning whether or not Suleman should be awarded for resorting to adult entertainment to raise finances to support her family.
"I feel so sorry for those children," one user wrote on the TMZ blog.
Other users questioned how "proud" her children would be when they were "old enough to understand."
