'New Girl' Season 7: Executive Producers Weigh In, Talk Possible Storylines

"New Girl" recently concluded its sixth season with an episode that felt more like a series finale--and it could very well be that should Fox decide to cancel the show. However, the network has yet to determine its fate at this point.

While the future of "New Girl" remains unknown right now, fans can take comfort in the fact that the show's sets have not been packed up yet. Additionally, executive producers Dave Finkel and Brett Baer have been told that they should still be ready for a seventh season, just in case.

"We just keep hearing, 'Be prepared to come back,' which is better than the alternative," Baer told Entertainment Weekly

They also explained that they structured the season 6 finale in such a way that it could also serve as a potential series finale. It tied up some loose ends and closed some open stories, but it also made room for new stories to tell in the future.

"There's a lot of stuff on the table," Finkel told TVLine.

One of the possible storylines for season 7 is Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick's (Jake Johnson) relationship. The season 6 finale saw the two finally getting back together after so many seasons apart. And there are still a lot of material left to explore when it comes to their relationship.

"We have options in a potential Season 7 to keep some level of [excitement] in that relationship," Baer said, according to TVLine, but that will not include breaking up again.

Another storyline involves Cece's (Hannah Simone) pregnancy and Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) transition into fatherhood. The season 6 finale saw the happily married couple finding out that they are going to be parents for the first time, and fans definitely want to see more of that road ahead for them.

Right now, a seventh season remains up in the air. Should Fox renew the series, though, fans can rest assured that all cast members are ready to come back.
