Nintendo Switch Pre-Launch Review 2017: Report Mentions 'Unresponsive' Controller Issue; FFXV Director Calls It 'Dream Machine'

A recent report shares that Nintendo might need to address an unresponsive controller issue affecting the Nintendo Switch. On the other hand, "Final Fantasy XV" director Hajime Tabata has expressed that he is excited about the hybrid portable console and calls it a "dream machine."

As earlier announced, the Nintendo Switch comes with Joy-Con controllers. It serves as the controllers while at handheld mode where it can also be detached once the gaming console is docked.

However, in a recent pre-launch first impression report from Gamasutra's edition-in-chief, Kris Graft, it is said that the left Joy-Con controller "becomes intermittently unresponsive." In Graft's experience, the left controller would suddenly stop responding if the Joy-Con grip is used in playing "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."

In his report, Graft added that the left Joy-Con would only start working fine again once he changed the position of the controller. He also mentioned that other reporters who are doing a pre-launch review have experienced the same problem.

However, other than that, Graft's review of the Nintendo Switch is generally on the positive side.

On the other hand, several game makers have previously praised the innovation executed in the Nintendo Switch. And recently, Tabata, the "Final Fantasy XV" director, agreed with them.

Apart from helming titles under the "Final Fantasy" franchise, which consists of some of the biggest role-playing games in history, Tabata has also worked on several handheld titles before.

While he is not working on anything for portable gaming right now, he admitted that he finds the Nintendo Switch intriguing. In a recent interview with Polygon, Tabata said, "I've worked on handheld titles, but I've also worked on console games. So the fact that Switch is both at the same time is really fascinating to me."

Calling the Nintendo Switch similar to a "dream machine," Tabata also expressed how he finds it amazing that the Switch can work in so many ways, explaining: "You have your Switch sitting in front of the television and you're playing on the big screen and then you take it out, put it down on the table. It becomes a monitor. You take out the two Joy-Cons, and you play with a friend ... it doesn't stop there ... it would be really perfect if you could then take this new monitor ... and play different apps on it like you would on your iPhone or your Android."

The Nintendo Switch is scheduled for a retail release this week on Friday, March 3, along with the highly anticipated game "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." The portable console costs $299.
