'Outlander' Season 3: Author to Consult on Production

The cast and crew of Starz's popular TV series "Outlander" have been hard at work in filming the show's third season in South Africa, and they have just been joined by Diana Gabaldon, the author of the best-selling "Outlander" book series the TV show is based on.

Gabaldon took to Twitter to update fans and followers of the TV series while the show is filming in South Africa. Recently, she shared a photo of a ship from a distance, which is actually one of the show's filming sites in the country.

The author is in South Africa to keep an eye on the filming and production of "Outlander" season 3, and will likely be there to ensure that the TV series remains faithful to her book "Voyager," which the forthcoming season is based on. According to the Gabaldon, she will be staying there for two weeks.

In the past, Gabaldon had a cameo appearance on the "Outlander" TV series, and she also wrote the script for an episode of the show. However, her presence during the upcoming season's production in South Africa will only be in a consulting capacity, according to the International Business Times AU. As such, she will only be there to observe and will not be taking an active role in the series' production.

As teased in the past, "Outlander" season 3 will show Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) separated in place and in time. Jaimie will find himself recovering from the Battle of Culloden, while Claire will be living her life as a wife to Frank (Tobias Menzies).

In the book, the lovers eventually found their way back to each other's arms in an iconic scene which fans expect to see once it is adapted to the TV series in the upcoming season. The next season will also chronicle the journey of the star-crossed lovers to Jamaica.

"Outlander" season 3 is scheduled to premiere sometime in September.
