'Outlander' Season 3 Production Moves to Cape Town; Caitriona Balfe Teases Jamie and Claire's Reunion

Fans of the show "Outlander" are excited to see Claire and Jamie reunite in the upcoming third season. And according to Caitriona Balfe, their onscreen reunion will be just as satisfying as the one written in "Voyager."

It is widely known that "Outlander" is based on the series of books by Diana Gabaldon. The first and second seasons were taken from the books "Outlander" and "Dragonfly in Amber," respectively. The third and fourth seasons will be taken from "Voyager" and "Drums of Autumn."

As fans know by now, Claire (Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will not be together for a huge chunk of the third season. Claire has gone back to her own time and her life with Frank (Tobias Menzies) goes on. Plus, Claire has a new child, Brianna, whose father is Jamie. Now that she is back in 1948, she works to fix her marriage with Frank and raise Brianna.

However, Claire and Jamie are set to reunite as well, although it will take 20 years. And fans who have read the book already know how the couple will find each other again. When asked if the reunion stays true to "Voyager" at the Emerald City Comicon, Balfe replied with an eager nod, reports TVLine.

Meanwhile, production for the third season of "Outlander" is still ongoing. The cast and crew are moving from Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa, for filming. And for Balfe, this is nothing but good news.

"Sunshine, vineyards. It's beautiful," Balfe told TheWrap. "I was lucky enough to go there about 10 years ago. Cape Town is just so stunning, so yeah, just being there will be amazing."

As previously reported, Starz has announced a September premiere for "Outlander" season 3. The long wait is apparently due to the larger scope of the story as compared to the first two seasons. And as Starz President of Programming Carmi Zlotnik pointed out, allotting more time for production will allow them to deliver the best quality.

"Outlander" season 3 is scheduled to hit TV screens in September.
