Renowned Fitness Expert Partners with Lakewood Church to Fight Obesity in 'America's Fattest City'
An internationally acclaimed, Texas-based fitness guru has partnered with Lakewood Church to combat obesity and help the city of Houston, ranked America's fattest city, become fit and healthy one church member and city resident at a time.
Samir Becic, founder of the ReSync Method, a workout program involving only body weight and Health Fitness Revolution, an online health resource website, kicked off the 'Healthy Living' class last month at the megachurch where he offers educational information on living a healthy lifestyle while encouraging participants to embrace spiritual balance.
"With Lakewood, one of the largest churches in America putting so much effort into the health and fitness of its congregation, it is a great motivation and influence for other congregations to follow," said Becic, according to his website.
He continued, "I am thankful to Pastors Joel and Victoria Osteen and their congregation for giving me their blessing to use my knowledge and experience to provide the information and guidance necessary to make this challenge a success to all the participants involved."
Becic, who has received numerous accolades for his work including the number one spot for best personal trainer in the world and U.S., and the same spot 22 times in Texas alone, said that his partnership with Lakewood was a seamless collaboration as pastor Osteen is considered a health advocate himself.
"It also helps that Pastor Joel Osteen is a very fit person who encourages his congregation to live a healthier lifestyle," said Becic. "He believes that by being a healthier version of yourself, you can become all that God has created you to be."
According to Becic, the idea for their fitness and spiritual focused partnership began in January 2012 when Lakewood held its first annual Health and Fitness Challenge, an event considered the first of its kind of any megachurch in the country. At the time, church leaders approached Becic to share his expertise to develop a program encouraging members to become proactive with their health.
Ever since then, Becic has facilitated informational events on being physically active at Lakewood while bringing together a team of fitness, nutrition, and faith-based experts to help the congregation.
For now, Becic plans to begin his health advocacy efforts with the church's 188,000 members and then branch out to the entire state of Texas. He hopes to serve millions in trying to become proactively healthy.
Becic has also announced another initiative with Osteen's church, the 2014 Lakewood Healthy Living Challenge, a continuation and progression of the original Health and Fitness Challenge.
According to Becic's website, the program will involve celebrities that will share their experiences and knowledge with the congregation about embracing a healthier lifestyle.
