Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, Specs News: Holographic Screen, Android M Featured
Samsung upcoming Galaxy S7 has been rumored to be carrying the world's first holographic screen and the new Android M.
The highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S7, which is expected to hit the smartphone market at the end of the year, is said to be sporting the world's first holographic screen.
A published Samsung patent application sourced from the US Patent & Trademark Office shows a mobile phone that can project images above its screen. The projected images appear to be the phone's icons users can activate by touch, indicating the phone's projector will be using its camera to detect icon interaction.
The patent also shows a special case mounted with a translucent panel that projects 3D objects above the screen.
Reports published on TechTimes and the You Mobile website have also emerged showing the South Korean tech giant will be incorporating Android M, Google's upcoming mobile operating system initially unveiled in May at the Google I/O, with a second developer preview released last month for Nexus 5, 6, 9, and Nexus Player.
The Galaxy S7 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED 4K display that will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, supported by 4GB of RAM and internal storage variants of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.
According to Android Community, the Galaxy S7 will feature a 30MP rear camera incorporating "gigapixel" technology to capture shots with more clarity. It will also have a 10MP front facing shooter, as well as infrared sensor to measure body temperature.
Based on a Tech Radar report pointing out Samsung has placed orders with a number of Taiwanese manufacturers specializing in flexible displays, the phone is also rumored to come with a curved screen.
With its 32GB variant expected to be priced at around $999, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be available in retail outlets by December this year.
