'Scandal' Season 4 News: Episode 2 Plot Revealed, Show to Feature New Guest Stars

ABC has released the synopsis for the second episode of "Scandal" season 4. The episode, titled "The State of the Nation" features a drama-filled premise.

"In order for Fitz to make the biggest impact with his State of the Union address on gun control, Cyrus sets out to recruit a power couple (Mary McCormack and Josh Randall) who are influential on the issue. Meanwhile, Mellie's personal struggle gets national attention," the synopsis reads.

The episode will mark the debut of McCormack and Randall's characters on the show, and according to Hypable, Portia de Rossi, who has been previously announced as a guest star, will also be appearing in the episode. De Rossi's role is still under wraps as show creator Shonda Rhimes has not divulged any information about it. Randall and McCormack's characters, said to be "regular" people, will be brought out to the stage while the President is making his State of the Union address, which is what the President of the United States typically does to make or emphasize a point in his speech.

ABC has also released stills of the pair, which sees McCormack's character confined to a wheelchair.

As for Mellie, it can be recalled that Olivia told President Fitz that Mellie was raped by his father. Upon knowing this devastating information about his wife, Fitz told Olivia that he can't leave her now. Could Mellie go public about what she went through?

"Scandal" returns on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 9/8c on ABC.
