'The Big Bang Theory' Plot Spoilers, News: Season 9 To Feature A 'Star Wars VII' Storyline
The geekiness in CBS' hit TV sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" is about to get on another level when it returns to the small screen for its upcoming Season 9. Meanwhile, the new Mr. and Mrs. Leonard may have to hold on to their honeymoon plans because of a thing from the past.
The latest TV scoop from TVLine's Michael Ausiello indicated that the show's brand new installment would "feature a storyline" based on Disney's highly-anticipated movie from the "Star Wars" movie franchise, "The Force Awakens."
Speaking to the media outlet, executive producer Steve Molaro confirmed that the show, in some capacity, will be bringing Episode 7.
"We're talking about how that will be weaved into [the guys'] lives. And we have some really cool ideas…Obviously, we're all excited about it, just as human beings – and the characters are as well. I don't know exactly how it's going to play in, but it won't be ignored," the showrunner said (via TVLine).
Molaro went on to say to the publication that it would "be weird for us not to mention the film" which will be coming out in the middle of Season 9's airing of TBBT.
Another obvious reason pointed out by the showrunner is that the series is clearly crazy with the George Lucas space opera. In the past, the CBS program has featured a number of "Star Wars" cameos. One of those is in Season 7's "The Convention Conundrum," which even starred actors James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher.
Meanwhile, Season 9 is reported to kick off with a revelation that Leonard and Penny are officially married.
Molaro, however, warns that knowing the two are already husband and wife is "only the beginning of the story."
"As fun and as great as it is to see them get married, that's only part of it," he teased to TVLine.
One ominous clue that TVLine dropped in their report further suggested that the newly-tied couple may encounter some setbacks early on thanks to the sudden appearance of a woman whom Leonard kissed while on the North Sea expedition.
