'The Flash' Season 4 Spoilers: Iris Gets Abducted

Iris (Candice Patton) will be at the mercy of a samurai-like monster straight out of her nightmares in the upcoming season premiere of "The Flash."

The promo released for the new installment shows Iris doing her best as she leads Team Flash on Barry's (Grant Gustin) behalf. In the previous season's finale, her boyfriend got trapped in the Speed Force. Season 4 will kick off six months after the Flash disappeared, and new enemies are expected to descend on Central City.

One of them is a warrior dressed in the ancient style of a Japanese samurai who appears to have taken a liking to Iris. In the clip, the villain is shown abducting her while her father, Joe (Jesse L. Martin), can only scream her name. The group of fighters tries to stop him but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the teaser also shows that when Barry eventually returns to the present time, he will not be the same person his friends used to know.

Showrunner Todd Helbing told TVLine that a lot has happened to the Flash while he was in the Speed Force. Barry certainly looks lost in the promo. His hair is longer and he has a moustache and a beard. He also has a weird glint in his eyes and he cannot even respond to Iris and Cisco's (Carlos Valdes) excited words as they welcome him back. There is also a hint that Barry's condition will not change for a while.

"Barry's time in the speed force let him deal with all of the baggage that he had the last three seasons, everything with his mom and his dad and Flashpoint. So when he comes out, he's sort of left that all behind," Helbing said.

"It does really allow Barry and Grant [Gustin], in a lot of ways, to play these scenes with a lot more lightness to it," the EP teased. "The combination of the scripts being a lot more fun and more joke-ridden, and just the state that Barry's in when he comes out, it's really changed the show quite a bit. There's definitely a comedic tonal shift that we're really loving right now."

"The Flash" season 4 will premiere on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
