The team took to Twitter and informed their fans of the good news. "#The Leftovers has been renewed for a third and final season," the post reads.
President of HBO Programming, Michael Lombardo, also expressed his joy through a lengthy statement (via Medium). "It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome back Damon Lindelof, Tom Perrotta, and the extraordinary talent behind THE LEFTOVERS for its third and final season," he said.

The series has become one of the most critically acclaimed shows in the history of HBO and is the result of a joint collaboration between HBO, White Rabbit, and Warner Bros. Television.
Lombardo himself admitted in his statement that the show is one of the most "distinctive" that has ever graced the HBO screens, the team taking pride in its "unrivaled originality."
Finally, he mentioned that they are looking forward to providing their loyal fans with a "wildly ambiguous but hopefully mega-emotional" ending that a widely acclaimed series deserves.
Season 2 tackled how ordinary people saved from The Departure strived to go on with their lives, being caught in events that can't be explained by anyone. It focused not only on survival but togetherness and the intersecting of two families in many ways that viewers never expected.
