'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Cast News, Rumors: Nina Dobrev Leaving Show, Michael Trevino to Leave Too
It was a shocking revelation for most fans of the hit supernatural TV drama series "The Vampire Diaries" when its lead cast member Nina Dobrev announced that she will finally be leaving at the end of the show's current season 6.
In a lengthy statement she released on Instagram this week, Tuesday, the actress who played Elena confirmed the previous rumors of her leaving the hit series.
"I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," she said.
"Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever," she went on to say.
She did, however, tease that there's more exciting development in the show that fans should look out for in the remainder of the season.
"There's more to come before we wrap this up … Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what's coming, you don't," Dobrev wrote.
A related casting report from Hollywood Life meanwhile cited series creator Julie Plec confirming, on the same day, that another role player is leaving TVD.
"Michael [Trevino] has been a beloved member of the Vampire Diaries family since day one. Even though he's also going to be out in the world exploring new opportunities, we look forward to finding creative ways to make sure he and his character Tyler Lockwood always remain a part of the show," Plec announced.
"The Vampire Diaries" will continue to air for its sixth season this next Thursday, April 16, at 8 p.m. with episode titled "I Could Never Love Like That" on The CW.
