'This Is Us' Season 2 Plot News, Air Date: New Installment to Feature 'Next Chapter' of Pearson Children's Lives
The first season of NBC's "This Is Us" has come to a heartbreaking close, with Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) agreeing to separate for a while after a fiery fight. And while many expected Jack to die in a drunk-driving incident, the show ultimately steered away from that.
It is already a known fact that Jack will die, but it remains to be seen how he will go. One thing is for certain: The show is making sure that there is a proper build-up to the pivotal moment.
"It's going to be our complicated thing to navigate until it actually happens in the show as giving and not frustrating and not showing too much," creator Dan Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly. He later adds, "I think it's a good thing to kind of slowly get the audience there mentally and emotionally."
The finale was not all bad, though. In the present day, Kate (Chrissy Metz) finally chose to follow her dream of becoming a singer, Kevin (Justin Hartley) traveled to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) made the decision to adopt a baby. This is the beginning of a new journey for the Pearson children, and season 2 will see that unfold.
"In terms of the writing, Dan and Isaac and Elizabeth wanted deliberately to tee up things for next season," executive producer Ken Olin told TVLine.
"At the end of this finale, the chapters in these people's lives have come to an end, and we're just hinting at the beginning of these next chapters," he adds.
However, the season 1 finale also saw Kate telling Toby (Chris Sullivan) how guilty she felt about Jack dying, blaming herself for his death. And while it remains to be seen if she really did have anything to do with it, Fogelman revealed that her guilt is real, even if she may be the only one who thinks it is her fault.
NBC has already renewed "This Is Us" for a second season. A premiere date has yet to be set.
