'Timeless' Season 2: Wyatt Ready for Romance With Lucy

Wyatt (Matt Lanter) is finally ready to consider a romance with Lucy (Abigail Spencer) in the next season of "Timeless."

The NBC series is currently waiting for the renewal of its second season. Co-creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan told Deadline in an interview, though, that they are optimistic about the show's prospects. He said he and Eric Kripke are already planning the storyline they want to feature in the next installment. Most of it will dwell on the cliffhangers left in the last finale.

According to Ryan, viewers can look forward to the change in dynamics between the two main characters, Wyatt and Lucy. It appears that Wyatt is ready to let go of his past and looks forward to a future with his partner-in-crime.

"Certainly, at the end of the season finale Wyatt seems to have had a big change of heart in terms of looking forward (towards Lucy?) rather than looking back (towards his deceased wife). The two seem to be on a romantic collision course, but we'll use this hiatus to discuss if, and how quickly, that's something we want to explore," Ryan teased in the interview with Deadline.

Meanwhile, Lucy's plotline will include her reaction to the revelation that her mother is a member of the Rittenhouse. Ryan told Blastr that more would be revealed about Carolyn's (Susanna Thompson) backstory in season 2. Why was she not arrested by the government when most of her colleagues were captured? The showrunner said that the reason for this would be discussed. As expected, Carolyn's secret would have a huge effect on Lucy as well.

In both timelines, her mother lied to her about the truth. Ryan said that Lucy would have to face the repercussions as she continues to search for her identity. Since her sister died, Lucy has no one to rely on but Carolyn. Learning that her mother is the enemy will be a bitter pill to swallow. Lucy has lost everything and she is bound to need Wyatt's support in her difficult times. Will he end up disappointing her?
