'Under the Dome' Season 3 Cancelled or Renewed? Season 2 Finale Ends With a Bang
CBS has yet to confirm if its sci-fi series, "Under the Dome," is going to be canceled or renewed for season 3, but there are hints that fans of the show will get to see more of Rachelle Lefavre and company.
In a timeline dedicated to "Under the Dome" by Seriable.com, there are strong hints that the series could be renewed based on interviews with Lefavre and executive producer Neal Baer.
The actress revealed that season 2 will end with a massive cliffhanger, which will feature a portal to Zenith that could be a means to escape from the dome.
"It will be involved massively. There is evidence of the possibility of escape. Obviously, Barbie left. And came back. So there is evidence that it is possible. If you know you can get out, you're going to try," Lefavre told TVLine.
Baer also said that the ending for season 2 was changed, though he did not disclose the factors that brought about the revisions. Could it be that CBS, initially intent on ending the series, chose to renew it instead?
One key factor that could secure the show's future is its good ratings, particularly with the 18 to 49 key demographic.
The season 2 premiere episode garnered 9.41 million viewers, and the show had a dip in ratings during the 10th episode with 6.29 million viewers. However, the 12th episode saw a spike in ratings at 7.04 million viewers, so although the second-to-the-last episode was a long way down from the premiere, the show still managed to generate good numbers.
The season 2 finale of "Under the Dome" took place on Sept. 22 on CBS.
