'Westworld' Season 2 Spoilers: Placid Episode Turned Into Bloodbath by Creator

"Westworld" co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who are also husband and wife, have expanded their horizons for the second season of "Westworld." One particularly bloody episode in the season marks Joy's directorial debut.

At the 2017 Emmys red carpet on Sunday, the creators dished to TVLine about Joy's helming an episode, and the bloodbath that is about to come to "Westworld."

Joy was initially nervous about directing an episode for the HBO hit. As she recalled the moment she accepted the task, she said it was like being given keys to a Ferrari, being asked to drive it and not crash it.

The episode that Joy handled is the fourth in the upcoming season of the HBO drama. According to her, she specifically wanted to direct this episode as she thought the script was amazing. It was penned by her husband, Nolan, as a gift to one of the show's staff writers, Gina Atwater.

"You've made it far more violent and disturbing than we ever intended," said Nolan. "It was quite a placid episode, and Lisa has kind of turned it into a bloodbath."

In a separate interview also at the 2017 Emmys, Nolan gushed about how privileged he is to be working with his wife, whom he called brilliant. Joy added that her husband has been so supportive about her venture into directing.

When asked about the biggest difference between the pilot season and the upcoming season, Joy answered that the first season was more calm since the robots were still coming to realize the truth. While it was still leading to an outbreak, in the next installment, viewers will finally see that outbreak happening. Hence, the entire set up has changed.

"Westworld" season 2 will premiere in 2018.
