'Wonder Woman' Cast News, Updates: First Audience Reactions Are Promising; David Thewlis Plays Ares

With only three months to go until the premiere of "Wonder Woman," a test screening has already taken place for the upcoming female-led DC superhero movie. And, based on some of the reactions from those who were fortunate enough to see the film, it looks like DC may have a hit on their hands.

According to GamesRadar, the test screening was held in California, and people turned to Twitter to share what they took away from the film. Some were very positive in their reviews, but others were not too keen on the film's premise due to its similarity with Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger."

However, one fan even called it "the best movie of the DCEU," which is not a particularly hard thing to achieve considering the current films in the studio's roster. "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" was panned by movie critics, while "Suicide Squad" was criticized for its plot and characters, although cast members Margot Robbie and Jared Leto were praised for their acting. Funnily enough, "Suicide Squad" recently won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, effectively making it an Oscar-winning movie despite its many flaws.

Other fans were concerned about Gadot's portrayal of Diana Prince, aka the Amazonian warrior princess that is Wonder Woman. Some of them pointed out that Chris Pine stood out more for his performance and even upstaged Gadot. Regardless, general reactions have been rather positive, which means there is hope yet for the DC Extended Universe.

As for the film's villain, it has already been said that Ares will be the main antagonist of the film. However, it was not until recently that the actor portraying Ares was revealed. According to Batman News, David Thewlis plays Ares. Thewlis, who is more popularly known for portraying Professor Lupin in the "Harry Potter" films, brings the role to life using a combination of practical effects and CGI.

"Wonder Woman" will hit U.S. theaters on June 2.
