Xbox Announces Free Games for October 2017 'Games With Gold'; Earlier Leak Incorrect

Microsoft has revealed the official lineup of next month's free games for Xbox Live subscribers available through its Games with Gold promo. The titles differed from a list shown in a supposed leaked photo that recently surfaced.

A few days before Microsoft's announcement, an image circulated online that claimed to be a leaked screenshot from Xbox Live's Games with Gold promo video. However, it has now been confirmed that the photo was not real since none of the games included in it were part of the official lineup.

For Xbox One players, Microsoft will offer "Gone Home" and "The Turing Test" in October for free.

The 2013-released "Gone Home" is a first-person story-based exploration game set in 1995 where players need to go through a home located in Portland, Oregon. In a way, the game is like one big puzzle because in order to advance, players will be using a journal found inside to guide them and determine which house items they need to examine to uncover what happened in the place. "Gone Home" was ported to consoles in 2016.

Meanwhile, "The Turing Test" is an outright puzzle game developed by Bulkhead Interactive and released by Square Enix in 2016. It is played from a first-person perspective where gamers will take on the role of main protagonist Ava Turing, who works as an engineer for the International Space Agency. Players will need to master how to properly distribute power. More elements and tools are added into the mix as the game advances, which makes it even more complicated.

Free access to "Gone Home" lasts for the entire month of October, while "The Turing Test" can be accessed at no cost on Oct. 16 to Nov. 15.

Free Xbox 360 Games

Players with Xbox 360 and an Xbox Live subscription, in the meantime, are getting free access to "Rayman 3 HD" and "Medal of Honor: Airborne" next month.

"Rayman 3 HD," released in 2012, is a visually enhanced version of "Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc" that was originally launched in 2003. The platformer features the titular protagonist and his journey to stop the villain named André. One of the major changes in the game, compared to its predecessors, is it made long-ranged punches the primary way to attack enemies.

Meanwhile, the "Medal of Honor: Airborne" is a game set in World War II that was released by Electronic Arts in 2007. As the title suggests, this first-person shooter starts by putting players inside a C-47 Skytrain as a soldier gearing to jump out of the aircraft to join the battle.

"Rayman 3 HD" can be accessed for free on Oct. 1-15 to be followed by "Medal of Honor: Airborne" on Oct. 16-31. Both games have been added to the console's Backward Compatibility program, thus they can also be played by Xbox One players.
