'Rock the Park' Festival to Reach Unchurched through Hard Rock Music

Producers of two of the largest Christian concert festivals on the West Coast are launching Rock the Park, a 20-hour event full of hard rock music followed by unabashed evangelistic preaching.

LOS ANGELES – Producers of two of the largest Christian concert festivals on the West Coast are launching a new fall event in Southern California aimed to accomplish what its two successful events have done – reach people with the message of Jesus Christ through hard rock music followed by unabashed evangelistic preaching.

"Spirit West Coast is about using Christian music to reach people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ," said Event Producer and Spirit West Coast Founder Jon Robberson.

“‘Rock the Park’ will have the same goal but the musical difference is that the October weekend event will feature straight-ahead rock music that, let's just say, may be a bit much for some, parents for example," said Robberson. "In other words, ‘Rock the Park’ will part your hair!”

While the hard rock music may contrast with the lush green grass at the festival site – the 2,000-plus-acre Prado Regional Park in Chino, located 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles – it will be a perfect fit for rock music fans who also love to camp. The 20-hour Christian music festival and outreach, is scheduled to begin on the evening of Friday, Oct. 14, will go all day Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

P.O.D. will be headlining the concert, which will also feature other Christian rock groups such as Emery, Jonah 33, and PAX217, among others. The Friday night headlining performance will mark PAX217's last appearance before it disbands.

“We’re excited about bringing such quantity and quality of intense Christian rock to Southern California and think an event like this is overdue," continued Robberson. "But we have even more anticipation about what God will do in the lives of young adults who will be there and the eternal purpose of this event."

According to Robberson, there will be an "in-your-face evangelistic message each night," delivered Friday night by KP Westmoreland and Saturday night by Brad Duncan.

Ticket prices will vary depending on whether participants will stay both days of the festival and whether they are camping onsite.

A two-day ticket purchased in advance is $45. A ticket purchased in advance for the Friday event is $25. A ticket purchased in advance for the Saturday event is $35. Group discounts are also available.

Like Spirit West Coast, Rock the Park is administered by the non-profit organization, Christian Music Today!, and produced by Celebration Concerts.
